Hershey Up Two Games To None In East Division Finals

April 26, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club, having defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers four games to one in the East Division Semi-Final, now lead the Albany River Rats two games to none in the 2010 East Division Finals. The BEARS took Game 1 in overtime Saturday night 4-3 when Kyle Wilson scored the game-winner in sudden death. HERSHEY then stormed back in the third period in Game 2 to post a 6-3 regulation win. The series now shifts to Times Union Center for Games 3 and 4 of the series. Should a Game 5 become necessary in the best-of-seven series, it would be this Saturday night at Giant Center at 7:00 p.m.

Goaltender Michal Neuvirth is a perfect 5-0 this playoff year after posting back-to-back wins in Game 1 and Game 2 against the River Rats this past weekend.

Tickets for the next two Calder Cup playoff games at Giant Center are on sale now at the Giant Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.

The Giroux and Gordon show: Left wing Alexandre Giroux and right wing Andrew Gordon lead all American Hockey League goal scorers in the 2010 Calder Cup playoffs heading into the new week. Both Gordon and Giroux have eight goals each through just seven postseason games. Keith Aucoin, the center of the two high-flying wingers, is second in the AHL to Rochester's Mike York in assists so far in the 2010 postseason.

Seven shots, and a Game 5 win: The BEARS allowed just seven shots in Game 5 on Wednesday against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in a series clinching victory. The seven shots is a new franchise record for the fewest shots allowed, regular or postseason, in a single game. HERSHEY won the game 4-1 to advance to the East Division Finals.

Practice schedule: The BEARS will only be available to the media in Albany this week with a practice scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Times Union Center.

Still getting it done at home: HERSHEY has won five out of five home games so far through Game 2 of the East Division Finals. The BEARS set a franchise record for home wins during the regular season, winning 24 straight at Giant Center at one point to set a new professional hockey standard.

Elsewhere around the AHL: The Worcester Sharks have taken a one game to none lead over the Manchester Monarchs in the 2010 Atlantic Division Final. Worcester rallied from a two goal deficit after one period to take Game 1. The winner of the Sharks and Monarchs will face either HERSHEY or Albany in the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals.
