Somerset Patriots News Release
Waldorf, MD - Brian Adams held the league's top offense to two hits while his offense jacked two homers off the league's top pitcher as the Somerset Patriots cruised to a 8-1 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Regency Furniture Stadium on Thursday night.
After a shaky opening to his outing, Adams (3-2) was fabulous the rest of the night. With a 2-0 lead to start his night on 1st-inning RBIs from Joe Burke and Josh Pressley, Adams walked the first two batters he faced before surrendering a Matt Craig RBI single. But the veteran southpaw bounced back, inducing a double play ball and a fly out to end the frame. From there Adams rolled, walking just two batters and yielding one hit the rest of the way, retiring the final 11 men he faced. Despite tying a season-high with four walks, Adams tossed 7.0 sterling frames, striking out four for his first win against Southern Maryland since last September 6.
Meanwhile, the two opening frame runs would be all the offense Somerset would need. But they certainly didnt stop there. Iggy Suarez and Joe Holden both reached against the league wins leader Dan Reichert in the 4th and Lydon followed it up with his second homer in as many nights, putting the Patriots up 5-1. Reichert (15-9) went on to retire the next nine Patriots before Joe Burke reached on a bunt single in the 7th. Jeff Nettles - a lifetime .309 September hitter with the Patriots - then crushed a 2-0 pitch down the left field line, sending it out of the ballpark, giving Somerset a 7-1 advantage. Reichert ate 7.0 innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, striking out seven.
The Patriots added a run on a Holden RBI fielders choice against Jason Waddell for the final margin. Holden snapped out of a 1-for-27 skid with a 3-4 game, notching his first RBI since August 11. The Blue Crabs finally tallied a hit in the 9th; a Craig double off Jerry Dunn who threw the final two innings scoreless, after 15 straight had been retired.
Somerset (30-24, 66-58) and Southern Maryland (32-19, 73-48) continue a four-game set on Friday. A pair of former big-league lefties square off when Bill Pulsipher (4-1, 3.74) and John Koronka (0-3, 11.77) take the bump beginning at 7:00 pm on 1450 WCTC-AM and online at www.wctcam.com and www.somersetpatriots.com

Somerset also has hit a homer in nine consecutive games, seven of which have seen the Patriots hit multiple home runs...the Patriots have hit 10 homers in the last four games against Southern Maryland...the Patriots have won 19 of their last 23 games.
