Final Homestand of Season Starts Tuesday

(Newark, N.J., Sept. 3. 2010) - Entering the final two weeks of the Atlantic League regular season, the Newark Bears return home on Tuesday, September 7 to begin the last homestand of 2010. The Bears welcome the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in for four games, including a Tuesday doubleheader, and the Camden Riversharks come town for a weekend three-game set.

The Bears recorded their second seven-win month at the "Den" in August and blasted 30 homers for the second-straight month. Come out Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium to cheer on your hometown team with these exciting promotions:

Tuesday, September 7th, 5:05 vs. Southern Maryland (4:05 gates) - The Bears begin a four-game series with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. This is a time change with the teams set to play two, seven-inning games. One game will serve as a makeup from a rainout down in Waldorf last month. Game two will start approximately 30 minute following the conclusion of game one. Tuesday is "Silver Sluggers" Day at the "Den". Silver Sluggers is a promotional program presented by the Newark Bears and Healthfirst Health Plan of New Jersey for seniors 55 years or older. Seniors will receive discounted ticket rates to select afternoon baseball games and have an opportunity to participate in fun group activities throughout the game. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or by phone at a discounted rate of $7 a ticket.

Wednesday, September 8th, 6:35 p.m. vs. Southern Maryland (5:35 gates) - The Bears and Blue Crabs continue the series with a Wednesday night clash. Wednesday is also "Kids Eat Free," presented by Dr. Thomas Haveron. All kids 12 and under (with a paid adult) get to eat free at all concession stands throughout the ballpark. Bring your appetite for a win and cheer "Let's Go Bears!"

Thursday, September 9th, 6:35 p.m. vs. Southern Maryland (5:35 gates) - The series concludes between the Bears and Blue Crabs on Thursday night. Newark is .500 on Thursdays at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Thursday will also be the last "Thirsty Thursday" of the regular season, presented by Budweiser and Pepsi. Raise your plastic cup to toast a Newark victory.

Friday, September 10th, 7:05 p.m. vs. Camden (6:05 gate) - Newark begins the final home series of 2010 as they welcome the Camden Riversharks. The Bears also welcome "Ed Randall's Bat for the Cure" Tour to Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. "Bat For The Cure" was founded in 2002 after the charity's founder, Ed Randall, was diagnosed with prostate cancer. After treatment at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York, Ed's cancer went into, and remains, in remission. Ed Randall is the host of Ed Randall's Talking Baseball on Sirius/XM Radio Channel 175 and WFAN Radio in New York. The charity is dedicated to the twin propositions of spreading the gospel of prostate cancer awareness and education. Come out the park and the get the chance to meet Randall, who is also the author of several publications including the book Tales from the Yankee Dugout and the forthcoming book, Baseball for the Utterly Confused from McGraw-Hill Publishing.

Saturday, September 11th, 7:05 p.m. vs. Camden (6:05 gates) - The final homestand rolls on as Newark and Camden square off in game two of the series. The Bears will honor those who serve and sacrifice on "First Responders Night". All first responders, including police, fire, EMS/EMT, rescue workers, in uniform or with appropriate ID/Badge with receive free admission to the game. Pre-game ceremonies will feature a special memorial video, a moment of silence for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and first pitches by first responders. There will also be a pipe & drum band and color guards on hand to aid with the pre-game ceremonies. A special balloon release will serve to pay respect to our fallen heroes. Immediately following the game, the Bears and July4Ever will present a special firework show.

Sunday, September 12th, 1:35 p.m. vs. Camden (11:00 gates) - The Bears will play the final home game of 2010 on Sunday as they wrap up the series with the Riversharks Get to the park early and head down to the field for a pre-game autograph session, presented by PSEG. After the game, fans are invited back to the field to run the bases, during Kids Run the Bases, presented by PSEG. The Bears will also host the final Youth Baseball Clinics prior to Sunday's contest, sponsored by Healthfirst Health Plan of New Jersey. The clinics will run from 11:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m. and are open for children ages 8-16 years old.
