Pulsipher Shuts Down Blue Crabs

Waldorf, MD - Bill Pulsipher took a no-hitter to the 7th inning and held the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to just two hits as the Somerset Patriots won their sixth consecutive game, defeating the Crabs 6-2 on Friday night at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Pulsipher (5-1) walked two batters and one man reached on an error through the first six innings in his second career start against the Crabs, his first ever in Waldorf, MD. Patrick Osborn finally busted the clean sheet with a solo homer to start the 7th but the veteran lefty finished 7.0 strong innings, allowing just the two hits and a run, striking out five.

Offensively, the Patriots got four walks in the first two innings against John Koronka but did not bring a run home. However, Koronka (0-4) was shaky in the 3rd, giving up two hits, walking two and hitting Noah Hall with the bases loaded. Koronka left after just 2.1 innings, yielding two hits and three runs, walking six.

Chris Hayes entered for Koronka, giving up a base hit to Iggy Suarez which drove in a Koronka run but wasnt touched again until Jeff Nettles hit his second homer in as many nights, giving Somerset a 4-0 lead in the 6th. Elliott Ayala, in his first game since August 26, drove in a 7th-inning run extending Somersets advantage. The Patriots added a run on Jeff Ridgway in the 8th with a Joe Burke RBI while Southern Maryland got three hits on Jeff Kennard, scoring a run before Andrew Dobies entered with two on and struck Osborn out, ending the threat. Dobies tossed a scoreless 9th as well.

Somerset (32-24, 68-58) and Southern Maryland (32-21, 73-50) return to action Saturday night when Josh Miller (12-8, 3.45)squares off with Joe Newby (6-5, 2.16) take the bump beginning at 6:30 pm on 1450 WCTC-AM and online at www.wctcam.com and www.somersetpatriots.com.
