Newark Bears News Release
(York, PA) - The Newark Bears defeated the York Revolution 7-6 on Friday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, Pennsylvania. The Bears have won three-straight and three-in-a-row over the Revoultion.
For the second night, Newark got on top first in the first inning. Tim Raines Jr. led off with a single off Julio Manon and came home on a Kennard Jones RBI triple. Sandy Madera followed with single to plate Jones and the Bears had a 2-0 lead. York rallied back with an eight-batter first inning against former Revolution starter Shane Youman in just his second start against his former team. Four-straight singles put across two runs to tie the game and a John Pachot sacrifice fly plated the third run of the frame to make it 3-2 Revolution.
The Bears used three more hits and seven batters to tie the game and push ahead for good in the visitor's third. With Madera and Brian Barton aboard, Eric Munson ripped a RBI single to center to even the score at three. After James Cooper was intentionally walked to load the bases, Randy Gress deposited a two-out, two-run single off the "Arch Nemesis", the 37 foot, 8 inch tall in left, to give Newark a 5-3 advantage. The Bears extended the lead in the fourth as Munson plated his second run with a bases-loaded single that popped off the mound over Manon. Barton drilled his 12 home run as a Bear, 15th of the season, with two-outs in the sixth off reliever Dustin Pease and it was 7-3.
York got a run back in the home sixth as Chuck Jeroloman singled in John Pachot to pull within three runs. Pachot drilled a two-run shot out to left centerfield to make it a 7-6 game, but Armando Benitez shut the door recording a five-out save, his 11th on the season.
Youman (3-1, 5-5 overall) got the win, allowing four runs on ten hits, with a strikeout over five and two-third innings of work. Manon (0-3) lost his second-straight start against Newark, firing four innings, surrendering six runs on ten hits, with four walks and six strikeouts.
