Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
Patriots LHP Bill Pulsipher carried a no hitter through six innings, guiding Somerset to a 6-2 win over the Blue Crabs Friday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. Pulsipher allowed just three base runners in that time. Designated hitter Patrick Osborn and first baseman Eric Crozier drew leadoff walks in the second and fifth innings, respectively, and second baseman Justin Armiger reached base on an error by shortstop Iggy Suarez. Osborn broke up the no hitter and shutout with a leadoff homer in the seventh. Osborn launched an 0-1 offering from Pulsipher over the leftfield wall, giving him seven home runs this season. It was the only run Pulsipher surrendered, as he pitched seven innings and earned the victory to improve to 5-1. Somerset got going offensively in the third. Centerfielder Wayne Lydon drew a leadoff walk, and with the hit-and-run on, advanced to third on first baseman Joe Burke's single to left. Lydon then came around to score on an RBI single by third baseman Jeff Nettles. Ahead 2-0 later in the inning, Suarez drove in Nettles with an RBI single, giving the Patriots a three run cushion. LHP John Koronka (0-4) lasted 2.1 innings for the Blue Crabs and was pulled with the bases loaded, but was charged with all three runs and suffered the loss. Righty Chris Hayes went 4.2 innings in long relief, striking out three. The Patriots went up 4-0 in the sixth on a solo home run into left-center by Nettles. It was his seventh homer of the season. Somerset then scored another run in each of the next two innings. After Osborn's home run, the Blue Crabs scored once more in the eighth. With two out and two on, third baseman Casey Benjamin hit an RBI single that brought home catcher Christian Lopez. LHP Andrew Dobies surrendered the run, but threw a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the year. The Blue Crabs return to action Saturday night for game three of this four-game series against the Somerset Patriots at Regency Furniture Stadium. RHP Josh Miller (12-8, 3.45) will start for Somerset, opposite RHP Joe Newby (6-5, 2.16) for Southern Maryland. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
