Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (24-17-4) saw rookie forward Charlie Adams score his first two professional goals before ultimately falling to the Mississippi RiverKings (25-14-7) in a shootout 4-3.
Adams broke the scoreless tie 14:20 into the first when he batted in his own rebound. Stephen Buco and Brandon Blair assisted on Adams' first professional goal and first goal as an Ice Flyer. 23 seconds later, Mississippi's Ryan Marcuz scored to tie the game up at one. Pensacola regained the lead when Adam Pawlick scored on a delayed wrap around just two minutes after Adams' goal. Corey Banfield and Joe Caveney had the helpers on Pawlick's 22nd goal of the season.
The Ice Flyers stretched their lead to 3-1 when Adams scored his second of the game 3:43 into the third period. Buco and Joey Holka assisted on the tally. Mississippi dug into the Ice Flyers' lead when Marcus scored his second of the game by rifling one top shelf over John McLean's left shoulder with 8:54 left in the third. The comeback was completed when the RiverKings had a 6-on-4 skater advantage thanks to a Too Many Men bench minor on the Ice Flyers and pulling goalie Peter Di Salvo for an extra attacker. Linden Bahm scored the goal with 23.9 seconds left in regulation.
With the game still tied at three following overtime, the two teams headed to a shootout to settle matters. Holka and Banfield scored for the Ice Flyers in the shootout and Cullen Bradshaw and Matt Harrington scored in the shootout for Mississippi with Bradshaw scoring twice including the game winner.
McLean stopped 41 of Mississippi's 44 shots on goal and stop three of the six shooters he faced in the shootout for just his third shootout loss of the season. Adams was named the game's second star thanks to his two-goal performance.
The Ice Flyers will be on the road tomorrow to take on the Columbus Cottonmouths inside the Columbus Civic Center tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. Central Daylight Time. Watch parties will be held at New York Nick's downtown and the 9 Mile Rd. Beef 'O' Brady's location. Fans can also watch the games online by visiting SPHLlive.com.
