Peoria Rivermen News Release

Huntsville, AL - The Peoria Rivermen saw a 3-1 lead slip away before taking a 4-3 overtime victory over the Huntsville Havoc Saturday night. The win, Peoria's third in a row, completes a seven-game season series sweep of the Havoc with ten games remaining in the regular season.

The Rivermen started the scoring at the 3:01 mark of the first, just as a Huntsville penalty came to an end when Mike Gurtler took a feed at the top of the Havoc crease and fired it past Havoc goalie Kevin Genoe to make it 1-0. The Havoc went on the powerplay at 12:16 of the first and tied it at 12:48 when John McGinnis fired one past David Jacobson to make it 1-1.

Peoria retook the lead at the 14:19 mark of the first when Cody Dion skated up the right-wing wall and from just above the right corner of the Huntsville zone he shot past Genoe to make it 2-1. The Rivermen doubled their lead at 15:15 of the first when a faceoff at the right circle of the Havoc zone came back to Jack Callahan at the right point. Callahan's shot toward the Havoc net was deflected by Alec Hagaman and past Genoe to put Peoria up 3-1 after one period.

Huntsville got back to within one with a powerplay goal at 14:29 of the second period. With Connor Toomey in the box for Peoria, Huntsville's Nolan Kaiser sent a pass above the right circle where Matt Robertson one-timed it past a screened Jacobson to make it 3-2.

The Havoc tied the game 39 seconds into the third period when Joshua Ranalli walked into the bottom of the left circle, and shot past Jacobson to make it 3-3. The tie score held for the remainder of regulation and the game went to overtime.

In the overtime period the Rivermen came up with a two-on-one when Dion carried into the left wing of the Havoc zone flanked by Dave Pszenyczny. From the left circle Dion leaned into a wrist shot that beat Genoe's glove for the game winner.

Jacobson stopped 30 of 33 shots he faced in goal to win his third straight game between the pipes. The win improves Jacobson's record to 11-6-0 for the season, 11-2-0 as a member of the Rivermen.
