Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces continue to shuffle the deck personnel-wise in preparation for this weekend's two game set in Canada against the Victoria Salmon Kings.

Alaska became the first ECHL team to officially clinch a playoff spot by beating Long Beach 3-2 in overtime Sunday, running its overall record to 41-8-3 on the season, good enough for a seven-point lead over Las Vegas in the West Division. The Wranglers still have a game in hand, but fell 3-2 in overtime to Victoria at home on Tuesday, a win that ended a seven-game winless streak for the Salmon Kings.

Winger Cam Keith, who had an assist in Friday's 5-1 rout of Long Beach, was recalled for the second time this season by Alaska's American Hockey League affiliate in Peoria, joining goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu and defenseman Zack Fitzgerald as ex-Aces currently suiting up for the Rivermen. With Beckford-Tseu in Peoria, Jeff Barney will back up Matt Underhill this weekend. Underhill finished as runner-up for ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors (he has been Goalie of the Week and Month once each) by winning two of three starts against the Ice Dogs to go along with a 1.67 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.

Forwards Vladimir Novak and Barrett Heisten, who did not play in either of the last two games against Long Beach, are nursing minor injuries and will not make the trip to Victoria after having been placed on injured reserve. Barrett's older brother Chris Heisten, who has been out since the third game of the regular season, likely will return to the lineup against the Salmon Kings. Alaska captain Keith McCambridge will not travel to Victoria but should be ready to play next Wednesday, March 1, when the Aces return home to open a three-game series against Utah at 7:15 p.m.

The Friday and Saturday night games against the Salmon Kings (17-30-5) have been scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. AST start. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com, where all home games and selected road contests also are available on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
