
ECHL Olympic Update For February 22
February 22, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL was represented in men's ice hockey at the XX
Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy by current Stockton Thunder forward
Maris Ziedins and 24 former ECHL players as well as Team USA coach
Peter Laviolette.
Nine of the 12 teams had an ECHL player including Latvia which had the most
players with nine, including Ziedins.
Here is a look at how some of the ECHL players performed:
Milan Hnilicka (Richmond, 1993-94) made 20 saves in the Czech
Republic's 3-1 win against Slovakia on Wednesday.
Mark Streit (Tallahassee, 1999-2000) scored a goal in Switzerland's
6-2 loss to Sweden on Wednesday and tied for the team scoring lead with
three points (2g-1a).
Scott Gomez (Alaska, 2004-05) tied for the Team USA lead with four
assists and five points (1g-4a).
John Parco (Hampton Roads, 1994-95 and 1999-2000) led Italy with
three goals and his four points tied him for the team lead with Tony
Iob (Erie, 1992-93), who had two goals and two assists.
