Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers (17-19) slipped to 1-3 on this seven-game homestand Thursday, and were held to only four hits in a 4-1 loss to the Reno Aces (21-15). The Rainiers' defense was a bright spot however, turning five double plays, four of which went through shortstop Mason McCoy. The home side turned two in each of the final four innings of the ballgame.
Tacoma was dealt an early 3-0 deficit by the Aces; Tristin English's first Triple-A home run came with two on base in the second inning. The Rainiers scratched back a run in the home second, after Jake Scheiner led off with a double into the left field corner. Scheiner eventually scored on a Jack Larsen RBI fielder's choice.
Rainiers right-hander Nick Davila, in just his second Triple-A start, allowed only two singles following the three-run homer. Throwing 75 pitches over six complete innings (50 strikes), Davila posted an official quality start (5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K).
Reno RHP Drey Jameson matched Davila frame-for-frame: 6.0 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 5 K. The lone run against Jameson was earned.
The Aces made it 4-1 in the seventh; an error put the leadoff man on second base, leading to an English RBI single, his third hit and fourth RBI of the game. Former Mariner Austin L. Adams nailed down his second save of the series in the ninth (1 H, 1 K).
The weeklong series will continue on Friday, with LHP Tommy Milone on the mound for Tacoma. Reno will counter with RHP Bryce Jarvis. First pitch at Cheney Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT.
Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto will have full coverage on TacomaRainiers.com. All 2023 Rainiers games, home and away, can also be heard for free on the MiLB First Pitch app. HD video broadcasts of every home game can be viewed with a MiLB.TV subscription.
