Aces Land Four on PCL All-Star Team
June 29, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.- A franchise record four members of the first-place Reno Aces have been selected to represent the Pacific Coast League in next month's Triple-A All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, the league office announced today.
Outfielder Collin Cowgill, infielders Cody Ransom and Tony Abreu, and catcher Konrad Schmidt have been tabbed to participate in the 24th annual contest pitting the Pacific Coast League against the International League, set for July 13 at Salt Lake's Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Cowgill earned a starting nod after putting together one of the most dominant first halves in all of Minor League Baseball this season-his first at the Triple-A level. The Lexington, Ky., native leads the league with 110 hits and ranks third on the circuit with a .363 batting average. Cowgill also sits second in stolen bases (24), fifth in on-base percentage (.437), first in runs scored (74), third in total bases (175) and tied for fourth with six triples.
Also tagged as a starter, Ransom has been one of the PCL's premier power threats in 2011. Reno's shortstop leads the league with 70 RBIs-seven more than any other PCL batter. He has also recorded 20 home runs, good for third on the circuit. Ransom's 45 extra-base hits lead the league, while he ranks fourth in the PCL with 64 runs scored and second with 177 total bases.
Schmidt-playing his first-full season at the Triple-A level-has batted .308 with five home runs and 26 RBIs for the Aces. The University of Nevada product has collected 27 extra-base hits-including 21 doubles.
Abreu, one of the league's best defenders up the middle, has also been among Reno's most consistent batters. The switch-hitting Abreu is currently riding a career-high and franchise record 18-game hitting streak. He also began the season on a 14-game run and is working on a 19-game hitting streak at Aces Ballpark.
The Triple-A All-Star Game will be televised live on MLB Network and streamed live on the internet at MiLB.tv.
In 2009, infielder Rusty Ryal was Reno's lone representative in the Triple-A All-Star Game at Portland's PGE Park. Last season, outfielder Doug Deeds represented the Aces at Coca-Cola Park in Lehigh Valley.
The Aces begin a four-game homestand with the Salt Lake Bees on Thursday night at Aces Ballpark. Tickets can be purchased at the Aces Ballpark Box Office, online at www.RenoAces.com or by phone at (775) 334-7000. A variety of partial season ticket plans as well as prorated full-season tickets are available today.
