Rainiers Fall to Las Vegas, 11-4
June 29, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Tacoma Rainiers season-high win streak came to a halt after falling to the Las Vegas 51s 11-4 in front of 2,385 fans at Cashman Field on Tuesday night.
Tacoma, holding on to a 4-2 lead, surrendered three runs in the bottom of the second inning to give Las Vegas all the offense they would need to erase the Rainiers chance at a series sweep and the opportunity to win a sixth consecutive game.
Tacoma held the lead twice in the game, beginning with a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first inning. Luis Jimenez singled to score Kyle Seager to give the Rainiers a 1-0 edge. Outfielder Johan Limonta added another run on a force out that drove in Alex Liddi.
After the 51s scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game, the Rainiers jumped ahead again with a pair of runs in the top of the second. The infielder Seager hit a triple with two outs that proved enough for two runs to score and put Tacoma up 4-2 before Las Vegas took control in the bottom of the frame.
Seager has now hit safely in each of his first six games as a Rainier after collecting three hits with a double and a triple on Tuesday night. Outfielder Ryan Langerhans stretched his hit streak to 13 games following a 2-for-5 outing.
Las Vegas' Mike MacDonald (5-3) earned the win, holding Tacoma to four runs on 10 hits over six innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
Tacoma's Blake Beavan (5-3) had his streak of quality starts snapped at five games in a losing effort. The right-hander surrendered six runs on 12 hits over four innings while walking one and fanning three.
The Rainiers (38-42) have a scheduled off day tomorrow before returning to Tacoma to begin a four-game homestand against the Fresno Grizzlies at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday. Left-hander Nate Robertson (2-2, 5.26) is slated to start for Tacoma in the series opener against Grizzlies left-hander Dan Runzler (0-1, 4.50). The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com
