Aces Holding National Anthem Auditions
January 2, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â The Anchorage Aces professional hockey team has invited all interested parties to test their vocal abilities in a one-time-only audition for prospective national anthem singers at Sullivan Arena Tuesday, January 14, at 6:30 p.m.
A three-member panel will oversee the try-outs, which are completely open and coordinated by Laura Dagon, the owner of a local talent agency. The three judges will be vocal teachers who reside in the Anchorage area. Those wanting to perform are asked to arrive dressed as they would if the audition were an actual performance at an Aces' home game. Prospective singers will be using the arena's microphone and sound system, simulating game night conditions.
Those who are interested need not call the Aces' office but simply arrive in plenty of time on January 14 for registration at Sullivan Arena, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Performers are asked to enter the arena at the security entrance on the west side of the building and follow the outside steps to downstairs. Those who do have questions may contact Laura Dagon at (907) 344-8088. The Aces advise all singers that while there is no cost to audition, there will be no compensation for those selected to perform the anthem at a future home game.
Anchorage (10-21-1 overall) resumes practice Saturday from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Sullivan Arena and returns to game action Tuesday and Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. against the Fresno Falcons, who will be making their first visit to Alaska this season. The Aces have won two of three previous contests in Fresno, including a come-from-behind 4-3 victory December 17. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
