Greensboro Generals News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - The Reading Royals stopped the Greensboro Generals from leading the ECHL's Northeast Division with a 5-3 victory at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Generals dropped to 21-9-4 on the season, while Reading crept back to the .500 mark at 18-18-1.

Greensboro jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a power-play conversion by Pete Gardiner at the 15:19 mark. In the second period, the Royals would score three consecutive goals, the first goal at the 1:45 mark off the stick of Brian McCullough. The next goal came off an Alex Kim shot, putting the Royals up 2-1 at the 15:04 point of the period. Steve Rymsha converted the Royals only power play with a goal with just 1:14 remaining in the second period for a 3-1 advantage.

Just 2:59 into the third period, the Generals closed the deficit to 3-2 on a goal by Chris Bell, who deflected a Geno Parrish shot past goaltender Jeff Sanger. However, the Royals would answer with a goal by Colin Pepperall for a valuable insurance tally. The Generals Pete Gardiner converted one a five-on-three power play opportunity with just over eleven minutes in the game, but despite tremendous pressure they couldn't get the equalizer. Reading's Brad Rooney sealed the victory with an empty net goal with seven seconds remaining.

The Generals and Royals meet for the second straight night tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum. Fans can listen to the game on WPET 950AM and www.greensborogenerals.com.
