Aces and Sea Wolves (Not Seawolves) Highlight Holiday Weekend
December 16, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â The Alaska Aces begin a stretch where they will play 20 of their next 25 games at home this weekend as the Mississippi Sea Wolves invade Sullivan Arena Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The only five games that Alaska (12-10-1) will play on the road over the next two months will take place at last-place Victoria, although the Salmon Kings are showing signs of life with a winning record over their last 10 games. The Aces have dropped to fourth place in the ultra-competitive West Division, where six of the eight teams boast records over .500.
Mississippi may be a game under .500 entering the weekend, but the Sea Wolves took two of three at Victoria last weekend and should be fairly rested despite the long trip, having arrived in Anchorage Tuesday night and practiced at Sullivan Arena Wednesday and Thursday. Last year, the Aces went 6-5-1 in inter-conference play, including a 3-3 mark at home against Peoria and Cincinnati. Mississippi lost to Gwinnett in the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs a year ago and competes in the six-team South Division of the Eastern Conference, where the top eight teams out of 12, regardless of division standing, will qualify for the postseason.
Friday and Saturday night's games against the Sea Wolves (9-10-2) will be held at 7:15 p.m., while Sunday's series finale will face off at 5:05 p.m. The first 1,500 fans arriving at Saturday's game will receive a moose, courtesy of the Outdoor Channel, and all fans are encouraged to bring new, plush toys to Sullivan Arena to be thrown onto the ice when the Aces score their first goal. The toys then will be collected and distributed to Anchorage-area hospitals over the Christmas holiday.
Sunday's game offers Xpress Lube T-shirts free of charge to the first 2,000 children ages 12 and under in attendance, and of course, features the KeyBank post-game "Skate with the Aces." GCI will be giving away 40,000 Alaska Airlines miles at Sunday's game, and Able Body Shop offers the fans the opportunity to "crunch" leukemia with car bashing outside the main entrance at all three contests.
All three games against Mississippi will be broadcast on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and also made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
