Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Tonight's Game

Tonight, the Aberdeen IronBirds welcome the Staten Island Yankees (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the New York Yankees) to town for the opener of a two-game series at Ripken Stadium. The IronBirds are coming off back-to-back three game sets against the Connecticut Tigers. After dropping two of three at Conneticut, the IronBirds lost their second game at home to the Tigers last night 10-2. Aberdeen had 11 hits but could only push two runs across. Jose Mota got the start for the IronBirds and struggled. He surrendered six runs on 11 hits in four innings of work. Right-hander Angel Cespedes gets the start tonight for Aberdeen. It's his second start of the season. He'll go up against left-handed pitcher Matt Tracy.

Irene Wreaks Havoc on Aberdeen Schedule

Because of Hurricane Irene, the IronBirds and Yankees will play a noon game Saturday at Ripken Stadium. The game was originally supposed to be a 7:05 PM start. In addition, Sunday's scheduled game at Staten Island has been postponed. It will be made up as part of a double-header Monday evening at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. First pitch of the double-dip is scheduled for 6:05 PM.

Davis' Four-Hit Game

IronBirds centerfielder Glynn Davis had four hits in last night's loss to the Tigers. The four hits tied a season-high for an IronBirds batter. It was also a career-high for Davis, who is in his first professional season after signing as an undrafted free agent last summer.

Runners on Base

The IronBirds had 11 hits but just two runs to show for it last night against Connecticut. Aberdeen left 11 men stranded on base. On the season, the IronBirds are hitting .248 with runners on base. Aberdeen scored both its runs last night in the ninth inning.

First vs. Worst

Tonight's game features the team with the best record in the New York-Penn League, and the club with the circuit's worst record. The IronBirds are winless against the Yankees on the season. Staten Island currently holds a four-game lead for first-place in the McNamara Division.

IronBirds vs. Ole Miss

For the second night in-a-row, the IronBirds will take on a pitcher who attended the University of Mississippi. Yesterday, former Rebel Matt Crouse pitched six shutout innings against Aberdeen for Connecticut.
