Auburn Doubledays News Release

Auburn, NY - Powered by the right arms of Taylor Hill, Christian Garcia, and Aaron Barrett, the Auburn Doubledays shut down the Batavia Muckdogs offense, holding them to just one run in a 2-1 win for Auburn at Falcon Park.

Christian Garcia got the win in relief for Auburn, tossing two innings of scoreless relief, and Aaron Barrett notched his ninth save of the season as the Doubledays improved to a season high 16 games above .500.

Auburn's magic number now sits at five games with just nine left to play.

On Friday night, the Doubledays took the lead early in the contest. A leadoff single by Angelberth Montilla followed by a Russell Moldenhauer double into the left-center gap put two men in scoring position with nobody out. One sacrifice fly later (hit by Justin Miller) and Auburn led 1-0.

Batavia tied the game in the fourth off of Taylor Hill, scoring a run on an RBI double by Romulo Ruiz that scored Danny Steinstra from first. That was the only run Hill allowed in five innings of work, as he scattered three hits, striking out three.

In the sixth, the Doubledays took the lead back. A one-out double by Billy Burns turned into a run when Ryan Sheriff threw back-to-back wild pitches, scoring Burns and putting Auburn up 2-1.

From there, Christian Garcia and Aaron Barrett did the rest. The pair combined for four innings of work, giving up just three hits and no runs, closing out a one-run win.

Auburn will return to action on Saturday night when they meet the Batavia Muckdogs for game two in the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm from Dwyer Stadium in Batavia, NY. Fans are invited to listen to the play-by-play of the game on 89.1 FM in Auburn, NY or at www.auburndoubledays.com.
