
Aberdeen Flies to 9-1 Victory Over Drive

Greenville, S.C. - The Ironbirds erupted for six runs in the eighth inning to put the Drive away and win, 9-1, Wednesday night at Fluor Field.
On the night, the Drive registered eight hits. Christian Koss and Cam Cannon collected two hits apiece. Cannon extended his hitting streak to nine games. With Tyreque Reed's single in the eighth inning, he extended his hit streak to 11 games. Elih Marrero tallied the only RBI on the night via an RBI single to left.
Jay Groome got the start for Greenville and took the tough luck loss. The lefty hurled 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on one hit and two walks while fanning nine, matching a career-high from his previous start.
Drew Rom earned the win for the Ironbirds after hurling 5.0 shutout innings, allowing three hits and three hits with six punchouts.
Over the first three frames, the teams combined for two hits, both coming off the bat of Koss.
The Ironbirds grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a Zach Watson RBI groundout.
Aberdeen added to its lead in the top of the sixth behind a Jordan Westburg RBI single to center and another RBI groundout Watson to take a 3-0 advantage.
Greenville plated one run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Howlett singled to leadoff the frame and got to second when Tyler Dearden hit into a fielder's choice. After two outs, Marrero lined an RBI single to left to make the score 3-1. The inning ended on a bang-bang play at first a hitter later.
However, the Ironbirds plated six runs in the eighth inning on an RBI double by JD Mundy, Watson RBI single, Gunnar Henderson RBI single, Andrew Daschbach RBI double, Shayne Fontana RBI groundout and
Game three is scheduled for 7:05 Thursday at Fluor Field. The Drive are set to throw Brian Van Belle while the Ironbirds are slated to start Connor Gillispie.
