A Night of Firsts in Tigers' 7-0 Shutout Over Regina

Medicine Hat, AB - A four goal night from Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) along with Gavin McKenna's (Whitehorse, YT) 1st WHL Goal & Beckett Langkow's 1st career shutout, helped pave the way for the Medicine Hat Tigers 7-0 win over the Regina Pats Saturday Night at Co-op Place.

6405 made their way through the turnstiles and saw the Tigers go back and forth in the 1st period, including a pair of penalty kills by the Tigers to set-up the eventual game-winning goal and the opening tally from Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) would match his career high in goals with 5 on the 2022-23 season to make it 1-0 Medicine Hat at 17:49. McKenna & Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) would draw assists.

The Tigers would outshoot the Pats 10-9 in the first setting up a strong second period from Andrew Basha, after having a goal disallowed in the 1st period, Basha would find the back of the net 21 seconds in the 2nd for his 17th from Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT), then at 12:28, Basha would respond again at 12:28 with his second of the night from Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB) & Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC). The Tigers defence keep the Pats at bay only allowed a single shot on goal in the 2nd, a team best this season.

Off the to the final frame and Basha would complete his natural hat-trick at 5:59 shelfing a shot past Pats starter Drew Sim from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Hodass. Cue Gavin McKenna, the Tigers 1st Overall Pick in the 2022 WHL Prospects finally notched his 1st WHL goal just 27 seconds later at 6:26 from Lee & Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB). The good times would continue to roll as Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) would a one-time feed from Owen MacNeil (Calgary, AB) & Hodass' third of assist of the night at 18:24 and just for good measure Basha would get his 4th of the night 41 seconds after to put the Tigers up 7-0 at 19:05. Wiesblatt & Josh Van Mulligen would get the final points of the night but not before a shut saving save by Beckett Langkow right near the end of the game on Sam Oremba to keep his first shutout alive and putting the final touch on the Tigers victory.

Langkow would get his 23rd win of the season helping the Tigers go back above .500 at 27-26-8-1 and alone in 7th place in the Eastern Conference standings with 6 games left in the regular season and just three points back of the Pats for 6th.

Next up for the Tigers is a three game stretch against Edmonton Oil Kings and a pair against the Calgary Hitmen, starting Friday, March 17 & back home Saturday, March 18 against Calgary.
