
Cougars Explode for 8 Goals to Defeat Royals

VICTORIA BC - The Prince George Cougars collected their second consecutive win on their four-game road trip with an 8-3 victory over the Victoria Royals on Friday at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre
Zac Funk, Ondrej Becher, and Cayden Glover all had two goal games, while Chase Wheatcroft and Koehn Ziemmer added singles. Tyler Brennan earned his 18th win of the season, making 25 saves.
The Cougars carried the play in the opening period, but it was Victoria scoring first. Teydon Trembecky converted on a 2 on 1 at 7:15 to make it 1-0. The Cougars then rattled off three goals in under 5 five minutes. Zac Funk (8:28), Koehn Ziemmer (9:14), and Ondrej Becher (13:02) all found the back of the net to make it 3-1 PG in the blink of an eye. That ended goaltender Braden Holt's night for the Royals, allowing 3 goals on 13 shots. The Royals cut back into the Cougar lead, however, as Riley Gannon netted his 16th of the season at 13:53. PG remained ahead 3-2 after the opening period.
Prince George added to their lead in the 2nd when Cayden Glover wired one by goaltender Nicholas Christiano to make it 4-2 at 3:16. At 9:31, Zac Funk scored his second of the nihgt to make it 5-2. Shortly after Funk's tally, Nate Misskey got Victoria back within two, scoring at 11:19. In the final stages of the 2nd, Chase Wheatcroft whacked in his team leading 43rd goal of the season which came at 17:22 and made it 6-3 PG after two.
In the third, the Cougars added two more goals from Becher (Empty-Net) and Glover to put the game out of reach for the Royals, as PG soared to an 8-3 victory.
