FRASER, MI- After 20 games the Mechanics are pleased to announce that one of their own has been called up to the AHL as goaltender Bill Ruggiero will be backing up tonight in Grand Rapids as the Barons and Griffins face off at Van Andel Arena.

Ruggiero, 26, gets his first taste of AHL hockey tonight as he has spent last season and the

2001-02 season in the ECHL and CHL, respectively. Last season Ruggiero was an impressive 27-15-2 in 47 games played with the Tulsa Oilers and recorded 2 shutouts and tallied an impressive .914 SV%. Ruggiero also earned the Defensive player of the year award with the Oilers last season and attended training camp with the Nashville Predators in 2001.

"We're excited that teams are looking to the Mechanics for players that can play on their teams," said Head Coach Danton Cole. "Our ultimate goal is to get players the opportunity to play in the AHL or the NHL."

Tonight the Mechanics take on the pesky ducks from Quad City for the second time this season at the "Garage." Fans will also get their first chance to see "MAD MEL" as he makes his home debut.
