\'Tips Take 2-0 Series Lead With 5-2 Win Over Kelowna

Everett, WA -The Everett Silvertips put together a strong 60 minute game Saturday night defeating the Kelowna Rockets, 5-2. First star of the game Ryan Murray put together a three point night including one goal and two assists. Shane Harper earned second star scoring two goals Saturday night. Chris Langkow picked up one goal and two assists while Markus McCrea rounded out the scoring for Everett. Kent Simpson earned his first career WHL playoff win stopping 24 of 26 shots. The Silvertips lead the WHL Western Conference Quarter-Final best of seven series 2-0.

The Silvertips took the first lead of the game at 14:20 on the power play with Harper's first of the playoffs. Everett made a great tic-tac-toe play to score their first of the game. Starting with Murray at the left point, Langkow received a tape to tape pass from the Everett defenseman before making a beautiful feed to Harper on the backdoor to shoot past Kelowna goalie Adam Brown for a 1-0 ‘Tips lead.

Geordie Wudrick tied the game for the Rockets at 2:41 of the second period. Wudrick redirected a Brandon McMillan wrist shot from the right point on top of the crease to make the score 1-1. Everett regained the lead after McCrea scored his first career WHL playoff goal at 10:58. Campbell Elynuik made a great pass from behind the Kelowna goal line to McCrea rushing in on the back door for a 2-1 Everett lead. Harper scored his second goal of the night at 13:19 to increase Everett's lead to 3-1. A beautiful passing play by Everett starting with a 3 on 2 rush led by a Zack Dailey pass to Langow on top of the slot before finding Harper streaking down the left wing and beating Brown blocker side.

The Silvertips increased their lead to three after Langkow scored his first goal of the playoffs at 4:38 of the third period. Receiving a Harper pass, Langkow got a bounce off a Kelowna skate in front after throwing the puck through the crease for a 4-1 Everett lead. Murray scored Everett's fifth goal of the night at 13:33 on the power play. Delaying a shot from the left circle, Murray found room to squeeze the puck five-hole past Brown on a slap shot for his first career WHL playoff goal. Lucas Bloodoff scored Kelowna's second goal of the evening at 19:12.

Everett heads to Kelowna, B.C. this Tuesday, March 23rd for game three of the Western Conference Quarter-Finals for a 7:00 pm puck drop. Game four takes place on Wednesday, March 24th at Prospera Place in Kelowna with a 7:00 pm start.
