Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings have drawn first blood in their Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with the Swift Current Broncos.
The Wheat Kings scored two unanswered goals in the second period Friday night en route to a 5-2 victory over the Broncos in game one of their best of seven opening round playoff series.
Scott Glennie led the winners with a goal and three assists while linemate Matt Calvert added a pair of goals for Brandon. Singles came off the sticks of Brent Raedeke and Brayden Schenn.
Playing in his first ever playoff game for the Wheat Kings, 19-year old Calgary product Jacob DeSerres turned aside 28 Swift Current shots to post the win before over 3,700 fans at Westman Place.
Taylor Vause scored both goals in a losing cause for the Broncos, who lost four of six games to the Wheat Kings during thte 2009-10 regular season, including all three in Brandon.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday night, with tickets back on sale first thing Saturday morning at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order online at ticketmaster.ca or by calling 726-3555.
