Evansville Otters News Release

Rockford, IL - The Otters came within a few feet of a third straight late inning, game tying home run Sunday. Ultimately though, just like the ball, the Otters fell short. The Rockford Riverhawks prevailed 8-4 in game one of a three game series at Road Ranger Stadium in Rockford, Illinois.

In the top of the ninth with two outs, Kevin Mackey came to the plate with the bases loaded. He whacked a John Muller offering to deep right field. Ross McCoy ranged back to the warning track and made the catch, ending the threat and the game.

The Otters played catch-up the entire game. They tied things at 1-1 after a Donald Brown RBI single in the second inning, and again at 4-4 after an Adam Kampsen infield RBI single and a Mackey sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Riverhawks would take the lead for good in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run by Matt Mazurek. Todd Martin added a little insurance with a two-run shot of his own in the sixth.

Calen Sutton (0-1) took the loss in his first start of the year, filling in for the released Brian Oates. Sutton gave up eight runs, all earned, in six innings of work.

Tanner Watson (2-0) picked up the win for the Riverhawks, his second win in less than a week over the Otters.

The three game series resumes Monday with first pitch at 7:05pm CDT.
