Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - For the fourth time this season, the Lake Erie Crushers fought hard against the Kalamazoo Kings. But for the fourth time, they would fall to defeat as the Kings rallied to beat the Crushers 7-6 on Sunday afternoon at Homer Stryker Field. The loss to Kalamazoo snaps a three game winning streak for the Crushers. The Kings are now 16-3 at home.
Lake Erie got on the board first with an RBI single by Luke Hetherington that plated Andrew Davis in the first inning. But the Kings would come right back with three runs in the bottom of the first, two on a home run by Brendan Murphy. The Crushers would come within a run of the Kings in the second as Eddie Tisdale scored from first on a pair of errors committed by Kalamazoo.
After falling behind 5-2, the Crushers would rally to take back the lead. In the fifth inning, Drew Saylor hit a two-run double to bring home Tisdale and Jodam Rivera to bring Lake Erie to within a run. Then in the sixth, Lake Erie would score twice on an infield single by Wayne Bond and an RBI single by Brad Griffiths to take a 6-5 advantage. But the lead would prove to be short lived.
In the bottom of the sixth, Kalamazoo would get an RBI single by Brandon Anderson and then a bases-loaded walk by Murphy to take the lead for good. The Crushers could not come up with any offense against the Kings' bullpen, which tossed 3.2 scoreless innings. Dan Baerlocker picked up his fifth victory in relief for Kalamazoo, while Tommy Mejia earned his sixth save. Cristobal Mata took the loss for Lake Erie and is now 2-4 on the year.
The two teams will meet again Monday night at 7:05 at Stryker Field. Brent Lysander will get the start for the Crushers against Brandon Parillo.
