
Gladiators Sign Four, Release Five

DULUTH, Ga. - The Gladiators had a busy Wednesday with the announcements of four players signing to ECHL contracts, and the release of five players. Defenseman Eric Springer will return to Gwinnett in 2014-15 with the signing of his ECHL contract, while forwards J.P. Labardo and James McEwan, and goaltender Adam Brown were released from their try-out contracts and signed to ECHL contracts.
Springer, 25, was a defensive leader for the Gladiators last season, as he led the team in +/- with a +13 while in Gwinnett, and a +15 overall during the year. The Wrightstown, WI native began the season with the Ontario Reign, playing in 32 games for them before being traded to the Gladiators on January 28th. In his professional career, Springer has three goals, 22 assists, and a +26 rating in 85 ECHL contests.
Springer played for four years for the University of Wisconsin, collecting two goals and eight assists in 84 games played. He was also named to the NCAA All-Academic Team for the WCHA in back to back seasons (09-10, 10-11).
Labardo, 22, played in both exhibition games for the Gladiators this past week, scoring the lone Gladiators' goal in game one against the South Carolina Stingrays. McEwan, 27, was the Gladiators' enforcer in both matches, as he fought with Anthony Collins in game one, and Bretton Cameron in game two. Brown, 23, started game one for Gwinnett, and was a perfect 15-for-15 in net, playing two periods against the Stingrays.
To make room for the players on the roster, five Gladiators were released from their contracts. Defensemen Tony DeHart and Nolan Descoteaux, and forward Cameron Abney were released from their ECHL contracts. Defenseman Drew Baker and goaltender Chris Kamal were released from their try-out contracts. With the team's 11th season in the books, the Gladiators are set to return for their 2014-15 campaign at the Arena at Gwinnett Center with the team's Home Opener set for October 24th at 7:35 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers.
