Birmingham Barons News Release
HOOVER, AL - The White announced Wednesday that catcher Tyler Flowers has been promoted to Triple A Charlotte. Flowers, who was hitting .302, caused a stir this season when he offered to play in both the MLB Futures Game in St. Louis and the Southern League All-Star Game in Birmingham. Though the games were played on consecutive days, Flowers' decision led to teammate Dayan Viciedo and Montgomery's Desmond Jennings' decision to return to Birmingham from St. Louis. Flowers was leading the league in on-base percentage at the time of his promotion with a .445 mark. His 57 walks put him second in the Southern League. He was also carrying a .548 slugging percentage that placed him second in the league. Catcher Don Lucy was transferred to Birmingham to replace Flowers. Lucy, a 2004 second-round draft pick of the White Sox, was hitting .216 with two home runs and 10 RBI for the Knights. In an unrelated move, the White Sox transferred catcher Adam Ricks back to Winston-Salem. Ricks was added to the Barons roster on July 8, but did not appear in a game. The Barons won the South Division First-Half Title and will open the playoffs on Thursday, September 10 at Regions Park. Game two will be played Friday, September 11 at Regions Park. Tickets to both games are available online, in-person at the Regions Park Box Office or by calling the Barons at (205) 988-3200.
