Carolina Mudcats News Release
Zebulon, NC --- Lee Tabor pitched six scoreless innings, while Juan Francisco homered and scored twice as Carolina blanked Tennessee 6-0 at Five County Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
Tabor (W, 1-1), making just his second start of the season, permitted just four hits and two walks as the Mudcats (5-11) split their four-game series with the Smokies (8-8). Philippe Valiquette and Ramon Geronimo combine for the final three innings of the shutout.
Carolina touched Tennessee starter Jay Jackson (L, 4-4) for a first inning run thanks to a balk which scored Carson Kainer from third. Francisco hit his second home run in two games in the third, a drive over the right field wall to hand Carolina a 2-0 advantage.
The Mudcats tacked on two runs in the sixth without the benefit of a hit against Jackson and reliever Alex Maestri. Four consecutive walks and a two-out hit batsman brought in the two runs. In the seventh, Zack Cozart singled home a run, followed by an RBI-double by Logan Parker to lift the lead to 6-0.
Following an off-day on Wednesday, Carolina begins a four-game, three-day series in Jacksonville against the Suns on Thursday night. With single games Friday and Saturday, Carolina opens the set with a 6:05 doubleheader on Thursday from the Baseball Grounds.
