Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - Already with eight men selected to the Southern League All-Star Game, the BayBears will send one more member of their squad to Regions Park on Monday, July 13 as starting pitcher Matt Torra has been named as a replacement for Birmingham's Jhonny Nunez who was called up to Triple-A.

Torra has been a rock in the BayBears' rotation since May 21 as he's gone 5-1 with a 2.24 ERA over his last eight outings. Overall, Torra is 6-6 with a 3.69 ERA. His best start of the season was against the Lookouts on May 31 when he tossed a three-hit shutout at AT&T Field.

It's the complete opposite of how Torra began the season as he was 1-5 with a 5.36 ERA through his first nine outings. Last season, Torra was 5-5 with a 2.85 ERA for the BayBears before a mid-season call-up to Triple-A Tucson.

The Mobile BayBears have sent nearly 100 players to the major leagues. They battle the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in the first of their four-game set on Wednesday night at 7:05 with Matt Torra (6-6, 3.69) getting the start at Pringles Park. The BayBears return home on Wednesday, July 15 to take on the Birmingham Barons at 7:05 p.m. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
