Mississippi Braves News Release

Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves took on the Jacksonville Suns in front of 2,979 fans at Trustmark Park Tuesday night. While the Braves' Scott Diamond pitched well again, the M-Braves were shutout by two Suns pitchers, 6-0. After taking the first game in the series, Mississippi has lost its last three.

Diamond was outstanding for the M-Braves as he set a new team-high with 10 Ks in the game. As well as he pitched, he still took the loss after giving up three runs in the third inning. Tim Torres doubled and scored on a groundout by Nic Ungs. Lorenzo Scott doubled and scored on a Chris De La Cruz single and De La Cruz scored from first on a Logan Morrison double. After three, the Suns led 3-0.

The score remained tied at three until Mike Stanton stepped to the plate in the eighth. With runners at first and second and one out, Stanton jumped all over a 1-2 pitch and deposited it into the Braves' bullpen in left field. His sixth homer of the year gave the visitors a 6-0 lead.

Diamond was outstanding excluding the third inning. In all he gave up three runs on six hits through seven innings while fanning a team-high 10 strikeouts. He fell to 3-8 despite posting a quality start in 12 of his 16 outings in 2009. Jerome Gamble gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning. Brett Butts threw 1.1 shutout frames.

Nic Ungs threw seven shutout innings to push his season record to 5-1. Kasey Olenberger tossed two scoreless innings of relief.

The Braves head to Birmingham, AL to take on the Birmingham Barons in a four-game series at Regions Park. In game one Wednesday night, the Braves will send righty Ryne Reynoso to the hill against Birmingham's Charlie Shirek.-
