Aceves Named EL Pitcher of the Week

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Alfredo Aceves has been named EL Pitcher of the Week ending May 25th.

The 25-year old made a pair of starts for the Thunder last week and had a record of 1-0 with 13 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 16 innings. Aceves made his Eastern League debut for the Thunder last Tuesday, after receiving a promotion from Single-A Tampa. He earned a no-decision in his first start giving up only five hits and one walk in seven innings of work at Reading. He struck out 7. In his second start of the week, the 6'3", 220 lb. hurler struck out six batters and threw a complete game, four-hit shutout in a 1-0 win at Altoona on Sunday. Alfredo, who was 4-1 with 37 strikeouts and a 2.11 ERA in eight starts for the Tampa Yankees prior to his promotion to Trenton, was signed by the New York Yankees as a free agent in January after spending the previous six seasons pitching in the Mexican League, where he was 34-23 with a 4.06 ERA in 126 games.
