Raptors 905 (5-8), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors split the season series against the Grand Rapids Gold (7-5) 115-109 Wednesday afternoon. The 905 were led by Javon Freeman-Liberty who put up a game-high 23 points, adding seven rebounds, four assists, and a steal in the match. Denver Nuggets' two-way player Braxton Key paced the Gold with a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double with four assists, two steals, and two blocks in the loss.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰The Raptors 905 got off to a hot start in the second of two matches against the Gold, opening the ball game on a 20-4 run. The two teams continued to trade baskets throughout the quarter before the Gold brought the game within seven going into the second. The 905 continued to build off their momentum outscoring the Gold 34-25 in the second quarter, regaining their 16-point lead going into the break.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰Grand Rapids opened the second half strong, outscoring the 905 35-24 in the frame behind a balanced scoring effort. The two teams played a nearly evenly matched fourth quarter, with the Gold outscoring the 905 27-25, however, they were unable to overcome the deficit falling in Mississauga.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰Mouhamadou Gueye added a double-double in the match with 11 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks while Collin Gillespie recorded a near triple-double with 18 points, nine rebounds, 14 assists, and four steals.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰The 905 continue their homestand hosting the Maine Celtics in back-to-back matches beginning Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. while the Gold travel to Indiana to take on the Mad Ants Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
