The Latest The Binghamton Mets never trailed after a six-run second, beating the Connecticut Defenders 11-5 in the series opener at Dodd Stadium yesterday...Jorge Padilla went 4 for 5 with a double for Binghamton, driving in a run and scoring another, as both Ambiorix Concepcion and Wilson Batista had three-hit games. Concepcion, tripled, scored thrice and drove in a run while Batista had a two-run double and scored a run...relievers Ryan Cullen, Lino Urdaneta and Eddie Camacho combined for four innings of scoreless relief, yielding two hits...the win is Binghamton's fifth in their last seven games.

About Binghamton Yesterday, Portland lost to New Hampshire, putting Binghamton 2 games behind the Sea Dogs for the EL North's final playoff spot with 3 to play...After hitting an EL-best .291 and posting a 2.83 ERA during a 22-5 July, the B-Mets hit .231 while compiling a 4.41 ERA during a 11-19 August ...RHP Henry Owens is on the USA squad and RHP Ivan Maldonado and LHP William Collazo are playing for Puerto Rico in the COPABE Olympic Qualifying Tournament 8/25-9/5 in Havana, Cuba. The top two finishers in the 12-team field of North and South American nations qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. The trio is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

Since then, the BMets have dropped 18 of 27...Barring anymore cancellations, Portland and Binghamton are both scheduled to play 140 games, each losing two contests to rain.
