January 22, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
The Ottawa 67's are in the win column for the fifth time in their last seven games stealing valuable points from the Oshawa General with a 4-3 victory in a shootout at the Arena at TD Place. The 67's trailed early in this game however Dante Salituro and Nathan Todd had great nights with a combined 5 points effort helping the Barberpoles earn two crucial points in the Eastern Conference standings.
Despite plenty of scoring chances in the opening period, it was the visitors that opened the scoring through Ottawa-area native Alexandre Renaud's seventh goal of the season. The 67's would pull level before the end of the period from a Evan de Hann point shot with Todd and Salituro drawing the assists. Travis Barron left the game at 17:08 of the first perioud after hitting the boards and did not return.
The second period saw the 67's again producing chances, but Generals goaltender Justin Nichols denied them the lead. The visitors would take the lead just past the midway point of the period when Dominic Commisso beat Leo Lazarev.
Five minutes into the final frame, Dante Salituro pull the 67's square with the Generals on his 26^th goal of the season after splitting the Oshawa defence bringing the crowd to their feet at the Arena at TD Place. Five minutes later the visitors found themselves back in front on Eric Henderson's first of the season.
Undaunted the 67's persistence paid off as Todd scored the game-tying goal with the net empty with under two-minutes to play forcing overtime.
The extra five minute frame didn't break the 3-3 deadlock sending the game to a shootout. Lazarev was perfect in goal for Ottawa while Todd and Salituro tallied to give the 67's the extra point who now have 11 points in their last seven games (5-1-0-1)
The three-point night from Salituro puts him into the top-10 in OHL scoring.
The 67's return to action Sunday afternoon against the Saginaw Spirit on I HEART Hockey Day at the Arena at TD Place. Sunday's game will see 67's captain Jake Middleton line-up against his young brother Keaton. Puck-drop is 3 p.m.
