67's Deliver Storm Sixth Straight Loss
March 4, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Guelph Storm News Release
Adam Craievich had two goals and Jacob Middleton helped out with three assists as the Ottawa 67's handed the Guelph Storm its sixth straight loss with a 6-2 win Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.
Nicolas Sicoly and Brock Philips had the lone tallies for the Storm (12-42-4-2).
Although they were first to hit the scoresheet, Guelph soon found themselves playing catch-up the rest of the way.
It was the Storm who wasted no time getting to work.
1:05 into the evening and in the midst of some heavy offensive pressure from Guelph, Sicoly banged a loose puck from the top of crease past 67's goaltender Leo Lazarev to give his team a 1-0 lead early on.
It wasn't long before Ottawa (31-29-2-1) responded, though.
On a delayed Storm penalty, the 67's leading scorer Dante Salituro found a loose puck in front of Michael Giugovaz and snapped it into the net after the initial Jeremiah Addison point shot was blocked as the teams skated to a 1-1 tie after the first 20 minutes.
In the second period, it was the visitors who got an early goal to jump ahead.
Artur Tyanulin got the puck at centre ice before skating into the Storm zone where he deked through two Guelph defenders and wristed a shot off the left post and in to make it 2-1 only 1:48 into the middle frame.
The 67's made it 3-1 less than four minutes later when, on a power play, Nathan Todd lasered the puck into the top right corner of the net past Giugovaz from the right circle.
Guelph would claw back to get within a goal thanks to Philips.
Philips potted his fourth of the season and first in 19 games by deflecting a Garret McFadden slap shot past Lazarev.
With just 1:07 left in the period, the former Storm forward and 2014 OHL Champion Craievich scored his third of the season. Craievich stole the puck behind the Guelph net and wrapped the puck around the left side of net before sliding it along the ice past a sprawling Giugovaz to increase the 67's lead to 4-2.
It was all Ottawa in the final period.
Addison made it 5-2 off a one-timer from the slot after a great pass from Austen Keating behind net. Craievich tallied his second of the night 1:16 later when he tipped in a Jacob Middleton shot to make it 6-2 for the visitors.
The Storm weren't able to make anything else happen as the 67's snapped a three-game skid to hand Guelph its sixth consecutive defeat.
Final shots were 25-25.
Giugovaz stopped 19 shots while Lazarev turned away 23.
The Storm hit the ice next tomorrow night when they visit Hamilton for a showdown with the Bulldogs. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m.
