Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves hosted the Owen Sound Attack for the only time this season Friday night. Despite a solid start for the Wolves, the Attack proved to be more than the Wolves could handle as the Attack beat the Wolves by a 5-3 final.
The Wolves came out hard in the first period in front of their home fans after being on the road last weekend. COLE MAYO opened the scoring for the Wolves at 16:49 with his first goal of the season. Seconds later DAVID LEVIN broke in short-handed, but was stopped by Attack net minder DANIEL DEKONING. The Wolves outshot the Attack 14-13 through the first 20 minutes.
The Wolves added another goal at the beginning of the second as BRANDON BASTASIN's shot bounced off of DEKONING and into the net. The Attack dominated the second half of the period scoring three unanswered goals. SEAN DURZI scored first for the Attack, followed by LIAM DUNDA and MARKUS PHILLIPS on the power play. Shots on goal at the end of the second favoured the Attack by 27-23.
Despite DMITRY SOKOLOV tying the game midway through the third, the Attack did not slow down. JOSH STERK's goal allowed the Attack to regain the lead before a scramble in front of TROY TIMPANO sealed the deal for the Attack, as SEAN DURZI made it 5-3. Final shots on goal were 36-30 in favour of the Attack.
The Wolves will now head south for the remainder of the weekend as they make their first stop in St. Catherine's Saturday night to face the Niagara IceDogs at 7pm. Fans can follow the Wolves on the road by tuning into KFM 95.5 for the live play-by-play.
The Wolves are back on home ice next Friday night for their second last home game when the Barrie Colts visit the Nickel City at 7:00pm. The game is sponsored by 95.5 KFM and tickets are now available at the Sudbury Arena Box, online at www.greatersudbury.ca, or by calling 705-671-3000.
