3 Slovakian defensemen added to Ice Dogs roster

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that defensemen Jozef Kubaliak, his younger brother Martin Kubaliak, and Martin Nemcok have all agreed to terms for the 2006-2007 season. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Martin Kubaliak stands at 6' 3", 220 pounds out of Zvolen, Slovakia. The 22-year-old defenseman has played 82 games for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the WHL for two seasons (2002-04) and recorded 12 points and 88 penalty minutes. The big defenseman played last season for Banska Bystrica in Slovakia and scored 4 points in 19 regular season games and 4 points in 15 playoff games.

Jozef Kubaliak is 6' 3", 220 pounds and attended the Fresno Falcons training camp last season. He recorded no points in two preseason games for the Falcons. The 23-year-old defenseman played for Vastervik last season after playing for Banska Bystrica the year before.

Martin Nemcok played for Team Slovakia in the World Junior Championships in 2002. The 6' 2", 210 pound defenseman played for Banska Bystrica last season and scored 18 points and 76 penalty minutes in 43 regular season games. The 22-year-old defenseman added 5 points and 61 penalty minutes in 16 playoff games.

"These are three very interesting signings," said Head Coach and General Manager Rick Adduono. "All three players have good size and bring a little bit of everything to the table. They all come highly regarded and will have the chance to show what they can do in North America."
