August 30, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with the 2005-06 ECHL leading goal scoring Defenseman, Steve Lingren. The 33-year-old represents the Salmon Kings by holding the club record for goals (22) and total points (47) by a defenseman in a single season.

"We are very excited to have Steve back for a second season as a leading veteran," said Dan Belisle, Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. "He will contribute to the Salmon Kings in many ways-on the ice, in the locker room, and in the community. His experience and skill is invaluable for our players and fans."

"Steve's commitment to playing this season will be a major component to our success," added Belisle.

The native of Lake Cowichan, British Columbia led the ECHL last season in goals by a defenseman (22) and placed fifth in total points by a blueliner (47) despite missing the last nine games of the Salmon Kings season because of a recall to the American Hockey League's (AHL) Milwaukee Admirals. He was selected to be the captain for the National Conference in the ECHL All-Star Game, having been voted as a starter for the second time and selected for a third time. The 6'0" 195-lb Defenseman led Victoria with four game-winning goals, 15 power-play goals and 28 power-play points, and tied for the team lead in goals. He also was honoured with a spot on the Second Team All-ECHL roster for 2005-06.

"I like the direction in which this organization is headed," said Lingren. "The Salmon Kings supported me in my opportunity to play in the AHL last season, and I said even then that if I play next year in the ECHL it will definitely be with the Salmon Kings. So the decision was whether or not I was still playing professional hockey. The decision to play in front of my family and friends and a good set of fans here in Victoria was an easy one."

Lingren also earned the Pemberton Holmes Player of the Month for February. He scored 10 points in 10 games (4 goals and 6 assists), with two of those goals scored on the power play, and finished with a +2 rating.

On March 14th, 2006, he was signed by the Admirals and earned 5 points and a +2 rating in 8 regular season games. Milwaukee climbed to the Calder Cup Finals with Lingren notching 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists) in the 20 playoff games.

Since his career began in 1991, Lingren has tallied 445 points in 1004 games between the AHL, ECHL, International Hockey League (IHL), Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), 2.GBun, and the Western Hockey League.
