Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA, SC (August 30, 2006) - The Columbia Inferno announced their revised 2006-07 schedule following the release of the National Basketball Association schedule which affected the availability of Charlotte Bobcats Arena, home of the Checkers of the ECHL and the Bobcats of the NBA. The Inferno was also forced to make some changes due to the University of South Carolina Basketball schedule.
"With the revised schedule, we have been able to add one additional Saturday date, as well as a matinee game on January 15 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)," stated Inferno General Manager Kevin Kavanagh. "This is a fan-friendly schedule that will allow people throughout the Midlands and state-wide to enjoy Inferno games."
Columbia increased their overnight road trips from five to seven starting with one game in October against the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Two weeks later they travel to Florida for three games in five nights from November 10th - November 14th. During the month of December, the Inferno dropped three home games, putting only six of the nine originally scheduled on the calendar during the holidays. After the New Year holiday, they will travel to Beaumont, Texas to face the Wildcatters for three consecutive games. The Inferno will then head north in mid-February to play two games in Toledo and one game against the Dayton Bombers. The following week it is off to Pensacola for back-to-back games against the Ice Pilots. Columbia heads back to Pensacola for one game and the Florida Everblades for two games each during the month of March.
Fans will have the opportunity to see a new team this year as the Reading Royals will visit the Carolina Coliseum for the first time in Inferno history on Friday, December 22.
