April 12, 2024 - International League (IL)
Norfolk Tides News Release
NORFOLK, Va --- The Norfolk Tides (7-6) fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (8-4), 6-4, on Friday night at Harbor Park. Coby Mayo notched two home runs, while the Tides pitchers combined to strike out nine batters for the 13th-straight game.
After Scranton/WB plated a run in the top of the first, the Tides responded in the bottom half of the inning when Heston Kjerstad socked a solo home run over the left field fence. Then in the following at bat, Coby Mayo connected with another solo home run to give Norfolk a 2-0 lead. Mayo tacked on another run in the bottom of the third with another solo shot, marking his first multi-homer game since August 26, 2023 against Durham.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tied up the game in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs before taking a 5-3 lead during the fifth thanks to two straight RBI doubles. The RailRiders added another run in the top of the sixth to give them a 6-3 lead.
Following a one out single by Kjerstad in the bottom of the eighth, Michael Pérez cut the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead to 6-4 when he collected an RBI single to drive home Kjerstad. However, the Tides couldn't complete the comeback in the ninth and dropped their fifth-straight game, falling to 7-6 on the season.
LHP Cade Povich (1-0, 0.82) will start on the hill for the Tides tomorrow, while the RailRiders will throw RHP Clayton Beeter (0-0, 0.00) in the fifth game of the series. First pitch at 6:35 p.m.
