West Valley City, Utah - The Tulsa Oilers (32-25-3-2) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (34-25-3-3) 3-2 in a shootout Wednesday night at Maverik Center.

Utah outshot Tulsa 45-16 in the contest as they outdid the Oilers 10-5 in the first period, 15-5 in the second and 17-2 in the third period, but they were unable to get a third score past Tulsa goaltender Jussi Olkinoura.

"We saw that goalie last year in the playoffs and he won the series for (his) team," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "He did the same thing tonight, but that's not an excuse. We have to find a way to get wins."

Utah earns a standings point in the contest for the shootout loss.

"We dominated the game. 100 percent," said Branham. "When you dominate games like this you have to find two points. I'd like that same effort (on Friday). I think if we put up 45, 46 shots again we're going to find a win."

The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead 13:12 into the contest as Matt Berry forced a turnover and Charles Sarault fed Barry Almeida who went one-on-one with Olkinuora on top of the crease.

Utah went up 2-0 on a five-on-three power-play goal by Ryan Hayes (10) on another primary assist from Sarault as Knodel also picked up a helper.

Tulsa tied the game with two power-play goals in 4:30 at 12:51 of the second period and with 2:39 left in the frame as the first goal came at five-on-three.

The Oilers scored on two of their three shots in the shootout to take their first lead of the night as the Grizzlies didn't score on either of their attempts.

Ryan Faragher dropped to 22-12-2-2 in the contest.
