Monarchs release three from roster

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced that Nicholas Kuqali, Castan Sommer and Taran Kozun have been released from the team.

Kuqali, 30, played in four games for the Monarchs and scored the first ECHL goal of his career March 18 against Elmira. Kuqali has now played in 22 ECHL games this season between Manchester, Fort Wayne, Adirondack and Evansville, scoring three points on a goal and two assists.

The 6-foot-3, 202-pound native of Dallas, Texas played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, seeing the ice for 104 games over his four years on campus, scoring 18 points on four goals and 14 assists.

Sommer, 25, signed an ATO with the Monarchs on March 16 and played in three games without recording a point after playing four seasons at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. During his time on campus, Sommer played in 148 games (fifth-most in school history), and recorded 64 points on 29 goals and 35 assists. In his senior season, Sommer played in 36 games and scored 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists.

Kozun, 21, did not appear in a game for the Monarchs, but played in nine games this season for the Utah Grizzlies, posting a 4-3-0-0 record with a 3.08 AA and a 0.892 save percentage in his first professional season.

The Monarchs are back in action Friday night (7 p.m.), when they visit the Reading Royals for the final time in the regular season.
