INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Missouri Mavericks forced an overtime decision in the final 18 seconds of their Wednesday night match-up against the Evansville IceMen and skated away victorious with a 2-1 win that clinched the 2015-16 Brabham Cup Championship title as the ECHL regular-season point champions. The Mavs sit atop the league with an overall record of 49-10-3-2 (103 points).

The Henry Brabham Cup is named in recognition of Henry Brabham, a founding member of the ECHL, who was the first owner of the Erie Panthers, and a former mayor and businessman who was a major force in professional hockey in Virginia for more than 15 years and worked tirelessly to establish the fledging league ahead of it's inaugural season in 1988.
As the regular-season point champions, the Missouri Mavericks have also earned home-ice advantage throughout the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The Mavericks and IceMen battled through nearly forty minutes of scoreless play before the first goal of the night was scored by Evansville forward, Jordan Sims, in a man-advantage situation at 17:41 of the second period.
Missouri looked to be on their way to a 1-0 loss as time ticked away on the clock in the third period, but with 18.7 seconds remaining in regulation, Darian Dziurzynski lit the lamp for the home team by knocking in a loose puck past net-minder Scott Greenham. Andrew Courtney was credited with the lone assist on the power-play goal that forced an overtime decision.
Then 1:32 into the extra frame, Missouri's Josh Holmstrom scored the game-winning tally off a feed from teammate Rocco Carzo to collect the necessary 2 points for Missouri to secure the Brabham Cup as 2015-16 regular-season point champions.
Missouri travels to Allen, TX this weekend to take on the Allen Americans for their next two games on Friday, Mar. 25 and Saturday, Mar. 26th before returning home to Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on Mar. 30 for a 7:05p.m. match-up against the Quad City Mallards. Tickets for all Missouri Mavericks home games are available online at Ticketmaster.com and in-person at the arena box office.
