Stingrays Get Herbert from Hershey, Add Goalie Jimmy Kruger

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced forward Caleb Herbert has been reassigned to the Stingrays from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL). The team has also signed goaltender Jimmy Kruger to an Amateur Tryout Agreement, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Herbert, 24, a fifth round selection of the Capitals in the 2010 NHL Draft, returns to South Carolina for the second time this season. During his successful stint with the club in February, he scored six points (five goals, one assist) in eight games, also notching 12 penalty minutes and a rating of plus-five. Herbert appeared in 42 games with the Stingrays last season, notching 28 points (19 goals, nine assists). He also helped the Stingrays to the Kelly Cup Finals, scoring 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 27 playoff games.

In 26 games this season with Hershey, Herbert, a product of Minnesota-Duluth, has two assists.

Kruger, 23, just completed his four-year collegiate career at Dartmouth College. He appeared in 44 games for the Big Green, including 26 contests in his junior year during the 2014-15 campaign. That season, Kruger posted a 13-9-4 record, setting Dartmouth single-season records with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .926 save-percentage. He finished his NCAA career with a 20-16-5 record, 2.43 goals-against average and a .909 save-percentage.

The Minnetonka, Minn. native stands at 6-foot-4, 210-pounds. Last summer, Kruger got a taste of the NHL, participating in Development Camp with the Winnipeg Jets.

Prior to his time at Dartmouth, Kruger was an exceptional high-school goalie, posting a 1.62 goals-against average and a .933 save-percentage during the 2009-10 season with Minnetonka. He was the Minnetonka High School Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior. Kruger also played two seasons of junior hockey with the Alexandria Blizzard and Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).

Kruger will wear #29 for the Stingrays.

The Stingrays visit Atlanta today and Saturday. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m. both evenings. Fans are encouraged to head to King Street Grille-Northwoods, the Watch Party home of the Stingrays, to catch all the action.
