Cyclones Drop Overtime Thriller

Indianapolis, IN- The Cincinnati Cyclones, (33-22-5-4) fell to the Indy Fuel, 4-3, in overtime on Thursday night. Forward Tommy Mele had two goals for the Cyclones, while forward Branden Gracel chipped in a lone marker.

After the Fuel took a 1-0 lead after the first period on a goal from forward Cody Sharib, the Cyclones got on the board 1:23 into the second while on the power play, when forward Colin Mulvey sent a pass to Mele and he launched it past Indy goaltender Keegan Asmundson, tying the game, 1-1.

Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead late in the frame when a shot from Mulvey was turned aside by Asmundson, but Gracel was on the doorstep to fire in the rebound, for his 14th goal of the season.

The Fuel managed to tie the game back up 17 seconds later when forward Alex Lavoie found the back of the net, pulling the Fuel even with Cincinnati, 2-2, after 40 minutes.

In the third, the Fuel took the lead midway through the frame, when Lavoie tallied his second of the night to give Indy a 3-2 lead, 13:11 into the third.

The Cyclones were not deterred, and with 55 seconds left Cincinnati tied the game back up when a shot from Mulvey was kicked out, but Mele found the puck in the slot and fired in the rebound to send the game into overtime, tied 3-3.

In the extra session, Cyclones goaltender Andy Iles was charged with making a number of big saves to preserve the 3-3 tie, however with 2:52 remaining, forward Daniel Ciampini scored off of a faceoff to send the Fuel to a 4-3 overtime win.

Indy outshot Cincinnati, 37-22 on the night, with Iles stopping 33 in the loss. The Cyclones wrap up their two-game series with the Fuel on Friday night. Faceoff is set for 7:35pm ET.
