2024 NHL Draft Eligible Forward Basha Named Tempo WHL Player of the Week
November 27, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today Andrew Basha of the Medicine Hat Tigers has been named Tempo WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 26, 2023.
The 2024 NHL Draft eligible forward registered four goals and two assists in two contests as the Tigers went 2-0-0-0, while outscoring their opponents 14-1.
Basha kicked off a beatdown of the Regina Pats with a secondary assist on Oasiz Wiesblatt's game-opening (and game-winning) goal 6:21 into the opening frame at Co-op Place on November 22nd.
The 8-0 win marked the 1900th victory in franchise history.
The Calgary, Alta. Product proved to be an unstoppable force as the uncaged Tigers handled the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-1 on November 25.
Basha opened the scoring by converting a Cayden Lindstrom feed from the slot on the powerplay in the early goings of the first period. He'd double Medicine Hat's lead four minutes later on another man advantage with a sharp redirect. Basha would provide some insurance late in the second period by picking up the secondary assist on Rhett Parson's second goal of the season to make it 3-1 Tigers. Basha earned his second career hat trick with a wicked one-timer after being left alone on the Wheat Kings' doorstep. He capped off a five-point night going shortside on the breakaway.
Basha has now eclipsed 100 WHL points with 36 goals and 65 assists in 139 games.
The 18-year-old now has two five-point games on the season for a total of 31 points (11G, 20A) in 24 games, good for second on the team. Cayden Lindstrom is just ahead with 32 points (18G, 14 A).
Medicine Hat (16-6-2-0) sits first in the Central Division with points in eight of its past 10 games. The Tigers will hit the road to play Swift Current on November 29 before returning to Co-op Place for a three-game homestand, including the Teddy Bear Toss game against the Prince Albert Raiders on December 2 at 7:00 p.m. MST.
