Stellar Road Trip Earns Eskit Rookie of Week Honours

November 27, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

On a gruelling three-game-in-three-nights road trip, the Brandon Wheat Kings called on rookie goalie Ethan Eskit three times. All three times, Eskit answered the call decisively.

The 2006-born goalie has been named the WHL's rookie of the week for the week ending on November 26. Eskit appeared in three games, surrendered only three goals, and posted an incredible .953 save percentage.

"Ethan has battled," said Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray. "It's not an easy role, to be a goaltender in this league, but you look back on his last four appearances he's played well and given us a chance. In PA, in relief, in Red Deer, it takes a little pressure off of (Carson Bjarnason). It's nice to have two guys you can trust to do the job."

In Red Deer on Friday, November 24, Eskit turned in what Murray called his finest performance as a Wheat King, stopping 29 of 30 shots thrown his way in a goaltenders duel. He came in to relieve Bjarnason in Medicine Hat, stopping seven of eight shots.

It was in Prince Albert that Eskit got rewarded for his efforts with a win. He turned aside 25 of 26 shots in a 3-1 end to round off his own personal run of three appearances in three nights.

Eskit now holds a 3-5-0 record on the season with a 3.86 GAA and a .872 save percentage. The Wheat Kings will now begin a home stand on Friday, December 1 against the Regina Pats.
