WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 25 2010) - Winston-Salem pounded out 15 hits to out-slug the Wilmington Blue Rocks and win 8-6 on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. With the win, the Dash snapped its two-game losing streak and avoided the three-game sweep.

The Dash (12-5) struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning off Wilmington starter Tim Melville. Luis Sierra led off the inning with a double and scored on Ozzie Lewis' RBI single to give Winston a 1-0 lead. Melville then allowed a Drew Garcia double and loaded the bases when he hit Justin Greene with a pitch. After Brandon Short struck out, Eduardo Escobar walked to force in a run and put the Dash ahead 2-0.

Melville (1-2) continued to struggle in the third when he walked the bases loaded with two outs. He then hit Greene in the batting helmet with a fastball to force in a run. Greene had to leave the game after his second hit-by-pitch of the day. Brandon Short took Melville's next offering to left field for a two-run double, giving Winston a 5-0 lead. Short extended his hitting streak to a Carolina League-best 14 games with the double.

Wilmington (8-9) got on the board in the fourth with a Juan Graterol sacrifice fly, a run the Dash got back when Kenny Williams, Jr. drove in Seth Loman with a single.

The Blue Rocks scored another run off Nate Jones (2-1) in the fifth inning when Patrick Norris hit an RBI single to make it 6-2 Winston.

With Manauris Baez pitching for Wilmington in the sixth, Seth Loman hit a solo home run to center, and Williams drove in another run to put the Dash up 8-2.

Those insurance runs would come in handy, as the Blue Rocks scored four times in the seventh inning off Dash reliever Santos Rodriguez to make it 8-6 Winston.

But the Dash got scoreless pitching from Kyle Bellamy and Gregory Infante in the eighth and ninth innings to close out the win and salvage the series. Infante worked the first 1-2-3 inning of the day against the Blue Rocks offense to pick up his first save.

Jones gave up eight hits over six innings, but only allowed two runs to collect his second win. Melville lost after surrendering six runs in 3.1 innings.

Sierra went 4 for 5 with three runs scored to help pace the Dash offense. Lewis collected a season-high three hits while Jon Gilmore extended his hitting streak to 13 with a 2 for 5 afternoon.

After an off day on Monday, Winston-Salem opens a three-game series with the Frederick Keys on Tuesday night. Charlie Leesman (2-1, 3.46) opposes Frederick's Nate Nery (0-1, 4.91). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com .
