THE HILLCATS: Last night the Hillcats fell to the Nationals 4-3 in the middle-game of a three-game series at Potomac...Lynchburg is now 3-6 on their current stretch of 13 in a row on the road...Tonight is the rubber match of the set in Woodbridge and game ten of the longest set of consecutive road games in 2010...The Cats are 0-2 in rubber matches so far this season and 0-4 in series finales...
VS. POTOMAC: The Hillcats are 1-1 against the Nationals thus far this season...Lynchburg is 155-146 against Potomac all-time and are 72-75 in Woodbridge...Last season the Cats won the season series with the P-Nats 11-9 and were 5-5 at the Pfitz...
IT'S A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT: With their win on Friday night the Hillcats are now 3-0 in road series openers and 4-1 in game one of series thus far this season...Unfortunately, with their loss last night they are 0-6 in road games that have followed the opener that and 2-9 overall after the first game of the set...
FINALLY A FRESH FACE: The Hillcats are playing Potomac in this current three-game series...This is the first team Lynchburg has played that other than Frederick and Salem...The Cats played the same two teams over the course of the first 14 games of the season...
IT'S NOT HOW YOU START: Last night RHP Lance Janke gave up just one run in five innings of work...In the last three games the Hillcats starters have a combined earned run average of 2.65 (five earned runs in 17 innings), but they have only picked up one win...The starters ERA is now down to 2.99 but their record is just 5-5...Last night the Cats bullpen allowed three runs in three innings, blew two different leads and got saddled with the loss...Their ERA is now up to 6.32 with a 1-5 mark...
TONE SETTER: OF Josh Fellhauer led-off last night with a home run out to right field...It was the second time this season and on this road swing that he has started a ballgame with a dinger...Fellhauer is now riding a six-game hitting streak that he is batting .391 (9-for-23) over that time with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and six runs scored...He is tied for the team lead with three home runs and eight RBI...
GREEN MEANS GO: C Devin Mesoraco was given a the green light to swing with a 3-0 count in the eighth inning last night and he mashed his third home run of the season over the wall in left to give the Hillcats a 3-2 lead...Mesoraco is tied for the team lead in long balls and RBI with eight...
SO HIGH, SO LOW: INF Miguel Rojas went 0-for-4 last night and is now hitless in his last 18 at-bats...Prior to that he went through a stretch in which he went 8-for-12...Coming into the doubleheader at Salem on Wednesday Rojas was third in the Carolina League with a .393 clip...In five games his averaged has dropped to .256...
SLIDE PIECE: RHP Mark Serrano went six innings last night and gave up just two runs on two hits...It was his first quality start of the season and his first win in his second outing since coming off the Disabled List...Serrano's slider is ranked as the best in the Reds' system by Baseball America and it was a key part of his success last night...
TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Brad Peacock was selected by Washington in the 41st round of the 2006 draft out of Palm Beach Central high school in Florida...He made his professional debut in 2007 with the GCL Nationals and went 1-1 with a 3.89 ERA in 13 games (seven starts)...Last season he pitched for both full-season Low-A Hagerstown and Short-Season Low-A Vermont...With Hagerstown he went 0-5 with a 9.09 ERA in eight starts with the Suns...In his time with Vermont he had a 4-7 mark with a 3.12 ERA in 14 starts...This season he returned to Hagerstown and had a 5-8 record with a 4.05 ERA in 19 games (17 starts) before earning a promotion to Advanced-A...In eight games (seven starts) with Potomac he went 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA...Last season he made one start against Lynchburg...He allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings and took a no-decision in a game the Nationals eventually won 3-2 in 11 innings...
